When is it advisable to carry out a
"color washing" or "washed"
A durable alternative to traditional waxing, ideal for achieving an antiquing effect in the restyling of surfaces subject to high wear (kitchens, doors, tables, etc.), is color washing.
It can be done before protecting the surface, using very diluted paint as a dye for raw wood.
Alternatively, it can be applied to already colored surfaces to create an antiqued effect, which can then be protected with wax or a liquid protector,
particularly suitable for the restyling of surfaces subject to intensive wear
INSTRUCTIONS:
Washing is very simple: first, you need to degrease the surface (this is not necessary if dealing with raw wood).
To antique: apply 1-2 coats of color as usual, following the normal guidelines.
Then choose a contrasting color to create the shades.
Take a small amount and dilute it in water (from a minimum of 30% to a maximum of 60%).
It can be applied with either a brush or a sponge, and the excess is removed with a soft damp cloth.
Attention: the longer you leave the diluted color on the base, the harder it will be to remove the excess.
To facilitate this process, it is possible to apply a coat of liquid protector before washing, thus preventing the paint from quickly absorbing the wash.
TO DYE raw wood: raw wood refers to wood that has not been previously treated with any product or just sanded.
Only in this case will it be absorbent and receptive to the paint.
The versatility of this technique is distinguished by the ability to dye while keeping the grain intact, any type of wood with any color.
Our advice is to apply with a very soft magic paint brush the paint of your chosen color diluted from a minimum of 50% to a maximum of 150% with water.
You can also use this technique to dye supports that will then be protected with liquid protector to withstand high wear.
You will therefore be able to antique your kitchen or your garden furniture.
Attention!
It is possible to apply waxes over the liquid protector, but it is not possible to apply the liquid protector over the waxes!
For this reason, you cannot use waxes to antique your kitchen or your high-wear restyling, but you will need to use the washing technique.
If you want to protect your wax finishes, you will need to apply the clear wax!
On greasy bases, the paint will not perform as well as on clean or water-painted bases!
