Working with Giles Deacon has revealed a collection that delights in our floral heritage, with a nod to utilitarianism and history that Giles explores in his work.

Trelliage was created by juxtaposing two nineteenth-century naturalistic patterns preserved in the Sanderson archive. A trellis design with flowing branches and flowers provides a classic structure. Then, a selection of exquisitely detailed Victorian botanical illustrations from another archive drawing was interspersed within the trellis pattern, resulting in a design that is “recontextualized classicism” in Giles’ words. Victorians were fascinated by nature, natural history, and new discoveries of flora and fauna. These extraordinary, delicate, and remarkable motifs in Trelliage are a fantastic example, transporting us back in time.
