Working with Giles Deacon has revealed a collection that delights in our floral heritage, with a nod to utilitarianism and history that Giles explores in his work.

Pygmalion, the king of Cyprus who carved a female figure in ivory to bring her to life through Aphrodite, is depicted here in this three-meter mural piece composed of four panels. A single alabaster coloration gives way to the decadence of this rococo-style design featuring giant artichokes, fennel, garlic bulbs, and mollusk shells meeting baroque architectural details. Strands of pearls and feathers contrast with flying deer for the ultimate decadent contradiction in the mural form. Fascinated by the world of trompe-l’oeil, Giles has captured this sense of an imaginary world, brought together through classical iconography with surrealism at play. A wonderful theatrical sense, here the curtain is pulled back to reveal a stunning panorama with juxtapositions of scale, object against landscape, and a distorted vision of classicism.
