If I have already protected it, can I paint over the wax or liquid protector with Magic Paint?

Repainting a previously protected piece of furniture: how to proceed without mistakes

When the time comes to refresh a piece of furniture that has already been restored with Magic Paint, it is important to understand what type of protection was applied previously. Depending on the product used, the procedure for repainting changes slightly. Here’s how to navigate without making mistakes.

If you used a liquid protector

If the furniture has been protected with one of our liquid protectors, Glossy, Matte or Satin, there are no difficulties. This type of finish creates a stable and non-greasy surface, ideal for being repainted. You just need to thoroughly degrease following our classic instructions (ABA) and proceed with the new application of color.

If you used a wax

If you protected the furniture with our waxes, Legendary or Jasmine, you need to pay more attention. The paint does not adhere properly to a greasy base. Therefore, it is essential to first assess the wear of the furniture.

If it is a piece of furniture with low wear, like a bedside table, you can wait ten to fifteen days for the wax to dry completely even deep down. Once this time has passed, degreasing with a slightly abrasive sponge will be sufficient. At that point, you can proceed with the new coloring.

If, on the other hand, the wax was mistakenly applied to a piece of furniture with high wear, like a kitchen table, and you want to repaint and then properly protect it with a liquid protector, you will need to sand the surface. This step is necessary to remove the waxy layer. After sanding, degrease thoroughly and proceed with painting.

With these simple precautions, you can safely and effectively renew any restyling, always achieving a clean, uniform, and lasting result.
